This year, Benicia Hernandez added a nonprofit arm of her business, Project: Life’s Journey, to help even more people with financial and mental health challenges. Currently, the organization has a project to buy masks from local businesses and distribute them to the homeless in Norfolk and Portsmouth to lessen the spread of COVID-19. When the food pantry at the Wesley Community Center struggled to keep up with the demand for operating its food pantry due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Benicia Hernandez and her team at non-profit Project: Life’s Journey took action to stock the shelves with food using physical fitness called the Virtual 5K “Race in Place” fundraiser.
